چکیده

Increasing global concern over the environmental issues and depletion of fossil fuels, significant interest has been shown by the researchers to develop alternate energy technologies like biomass, biogas, solar to meet the future energy demand. The prediction of the performance of different biomass energy sources in gasifiers is needed for the implementation of this technology to fulfil the need of decentralized heat and power applications, relevant to remote villages. This study presents the theoretical and experimental studies conducted on a 50 kW downdraft biomass gasifier with various biomass materials such as wood, coconut shell, rubber seed kernel and coir pith which are generally available in villages. Two-zone kinetic equilibrium model approach is used to predict the composition and temperature of the producer gas. The influence of equivalence ratio on the reaction temperature, quality of producer gas and gasifier conversion efficiency are discussed. The experimental and theoretical studies show that the rubber seed kernel can be effectively used as a feedstock of the biomass gasifier to meet the rural energy demand.

Experimental Studies on Gasification of Pine Wood Shavings in a Downdraft Biomass Gasifier

Biomass is the oldest form of energy used by human beings, mainly in the form of wood. It is a renewable source of energy and has many advantages from an ecological point of view. The direct combustion of biomass generates concern among environmentalists, as it is incomplete and inconsistent and may produce organic particulate matter, carbon monoxide and other organic gases. Biomass gasificatio...

Modeling and Simulation of Reduction Zone of Downdraft Biomass Gasifier: Effect of Air to Fuel Ratio

Biomass mainly in the form of wood is the oldest form of energy used by humans. Biomass generally means a relatively dry solid of natural matter that has been specifically grown or has originated as waste or residue from handling such materials. The thermochemical conversion of biomass (pyrolysis, gasification, combustion) is one of the most promising non-nuclear forms of future energy. In the ...

Combined Transport and Kinetic Modeling of Downdraft Biomass Gasifier

Kinetics-free equilibrium models can predict the exit gas composition of the biomass gasifier, given the solid composition and the equilibrium temperature, but they cannot be used for reactor design. Hence, there is a need to develop a combined transport and kinetic model which takes into account of the kinetics of homogeneous and heterogeneous chemical reactions, transport of volatiles produce...

Kinetic Model of the Reduction Zone of a Downdraft Biomass Gasifier

The model has been developed by considering two distinct zones in the downdraft gasifier: pyro-oxidation zone and reduction zone. The process in the pyro-oxidation zone has been solved based on the chemical equilibrium consideration considering water gas shift reaction and methanation reaction. The composition of different species (H2, CO, CO2, CH4, H2O, N2 and Char) and the temperature of the ...

Till min älskade son Alexander Comparative study of residue pellets from cane sugar and palm-oil industries with commercial wood pellets, applied in downdraft gasification

While biomass utilization for energy conversion in the industrialized nations is being largely developed, highly efficient and environmentally friendly, many tropical countries still use biomass at low efficiencies and high emission levels. The main reasons for these gaps are both political and technological: the energy markets are different, the Gross National Product (GDP) differs widely, and...
